by on Friday, April 28th, 2017

The Boys’ Track team is having another incredible year this season. Coming off of two consecutive ISL Championships and undefeated seasons, the track team was poised for another successful year. So far, the Men’s Track Team remains undefeated after three meets. According to captain Teddy Beaudoin (I), “John Minicus (II) has helped the team achieve victory all season as he is undefeated in the javelin, triple jump, and long jump.” The sprinting team is also finding success. Last meet in the 100 meters, Mike Silva (I) and Jailen Branch (II) raced to a first and second place finish respectively. In addition, Kalel Mullins (IV) finished first in the 200 meters. While the distance squad lost six of its seven varsity runners, the group of men are still doing well with Teddy Beaudoin (I) placing in five distance events over the last three meets. With new and returning athletes are improving each week, it doesn’t appear like any ISL track team can match Milton’s dynasty.

The varsity softball team is off to a strong start, opening the season with a dominant, 8-run victory over St. George’s. After the win, the team fought hard but ultimately fell to a talented Brooks squad. Since then, the team has had to deal with several rained out games. However, the Mustangs are making the most of the situation and improving everyday. After the majority of the starting lineup graduated last year, the softball team is using the extra practice time to build team chemistry and polish their skills. New players Kiely Johnson (III), Katherine Walker (IV), and Kate Dudley (IV) have stepped up and contributed on defense. Luckily, the team has retained veteran power hitters such as Mary Thompson (III), Claire Dudley (II) and Libby Czarniak (I). With all of this talent, future looks bright for the varsity softball team. Captain Clare Lonergan (I) is optimistic about the remaining games, saying, “we’ve worked really hard over the past few weeks, and I know that we can be successful in our upcoming games.” This afternoon, the varsity softball team will look for its next win against Dana Hall.

The Varsity Golf team has rebounded well this year, having lost two seniors after the 2016 season. Michael Ma (III) and Daniel Suter (IV) have stepped up early this year to fill the shoes of Addison Bowden (‘16) and John Chan (‘16). Another new addition this year, Sam Murray (I), has offered maturity and excellent play, especially as of late, capturing two much needed points in the team’s most recent wins against Middlesex and Lawrence Academy. The golf team prides itself on being a very close knit community. Charlie Koehan (II) says that “Golf team is family.” Daniel Suter (IV) says that “golf team is great because [he] can compete seriously, do what [he] loves, and hang out with great friends”.

As a whole, the team has been off to an amazing start to the 2017 season, earning a 8-2-2 record with a huge 4-3 win against Nobles. The team will have their toughest test of the year next week, facing off against St. Sebastian’s, BB&N and Belmont Hill, the top three teams in the ISL from the 2016 season. With only a few more weeks left in the season, the team has already started to devote some time in preparation for the Kingsman Tournament–an annual, 18-hole stroke play event the decided the ISL Championship.
