SAA Plans Exciting Student Events

The SAA, or Student Activities Association, organizes weekend activities for students throughout the year. They try their best to find activities that interest the whole campus regardless of whether one is a boarder or day student. The main goal of the SAA is to use both student and faculty input in order to determine what the community wants in terms of weekend entertainment. They generate opportunities for all Milton students to interact and connect, whether it be at a Friday night dance or another exhilarating Bingo night.
Some of the annual Fall highlights SAA always puts on include Glow dance, the outdoor movie, and the Mentalist. However, every year SAA works to introduce Milton to new types of ideas, guests, and entertainment. As many new students are on campus, the fall is an especially busy time for SAA leaders. They have to create activities that not only promote socializing for members of the Milton community, but also alleviate the transition for newcomers. The first weeks of September are packed with some of the more entertaining activities because SAA wants to help students unwind from classes and get pumped for the rest of the school year.
SAA welcomed us back with an enlivening goodbye to summer in the form of a back to school carnival on the quad followed by the cutting edge and slightly nerve-racking fire jugglers. The next night SAA provided an easy transition into fall with the cozy atmosphere of s’mores and music on the quad, followed by an outstanding performance by The Well Reds in the Student Center. The next weekend was filled with two SAA classics: the Mentalist and Dorm Hop.
Always one of the most anticipated events of the year, the renowned Glow Dance took place last Friday in Wigg Hall. One major change to this year’s dance was the replacement of paint with body crayons in order to eliminate the mess that usually follows Glow Dance. Although the replacement definitely gave the infamous Glow Dance a different ambience, this change did not stop students from having a great time as they do every year.
The SAA still has a whole myriad of fresh activities this fall. On this Friday, September 30, there will be a Haunted House at 7pm located on the Forbes quad, and on Saturday, October 1, John Rush: The Human iPod, a new development, will be visiting our campus at 8:30pm in the SSC. Next weekend there will be a Milton Casino Party at 8pm in Wigg Hall on Friday, October 14. Since the following weekend is Parents Weekend, SAA relaxed their schedule to allow students to spend time with their parents without having to miss out on fun, on-campus activities. However, the following weekend is full of more exciting events such as the Halloween Dance on Friday, October 28 at 8pm in Wigg Hall and Goodwin Open House on Saturday, October 29 also at 8pm. SAA focuses on informing the student body of all on-campus and possible off-campus happenings ahead of time, either through email or texts.
As you can see from SAA’s active schedule, the months of September and October are bustling with carefully organized activities that promise to be both fun and relaxing. After the fall season, SAA doesn’t let up. With Winter Ball, Beatniks, and Improv Night as well as new activities in-the-making, SAA will not fail to impress.
