As Winter Approaches, Students Anticipate Dance Concert

For many of us here at Milton, the Winter Dance Concert is the highlight of the snowy and seemingly endless season. The concert showcases the phenomenal hard work of both students and faculty. Each year’s Dance Concert displays a great array of inspired and memorable dances of varying styles and techniques, and this year the Milton community can look forward to an even more exciting show consisting of a diverse set of genres, ranging from tap to Irish step to hip hop and beyond.
Last year, the student-choreographed Indian dance was a stand-out for many. The dance exhibited great participation and talent from all grades, and was a stunning balance between the slow-paced romance and the more upbeat and contemporary aspects of traditional Indian dance. This year the Indian dance hopes to please again, with Aeshna Chandra (I) as the choreographer.
Olivia Risoleo (III) participated in last year’s Dance Concert for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed her time. She says, “Everything about the dance concert was so incredibly fun because everyone was so supportive and excited to be there”.
Spencer Evett (II) has been hugely involved in the Winter Dance Concert in the past and is choreographing this year. When asked why he continues doing the Dance Concert every year, Spencer said, “I love to dance, and the Dance Concert creates an awesome environment where dance and performance are enjoyable and in many ways accessible to all. The performances in Dance Concert are always super fun, not only because of the dancing, but also because of the energy in the audience. I think it’s great that so many people come to dance concert and that it’s such an appreciated event at Milton.”
The Winter Dance Concert is praised for being the perfect opportunity to explore and showcase the love many performers at Milton feel for dance. Sophie Clivio (III) has also displayed immense involvement in the winter dance concert. Sophie cited rehearsals as her favorite part, gushing, “Even though at times they can be tiresome, there is never an absence of fun. I could list the inside jokes from each dance I was in last year, and they never cease to bring a giggle out of me. You really end up bonding with the people you dance with; after all you do spend months of rehearsals together, working towards this wonderful show. And boy is it worth it.”
The Winter Dance Concert is greatly appreciated by the whole Milton community, bringing in huge crowds of thrilled parents, relatives and friends to the show each year. Spencer believes that “having student choreography is a prominent reason for the amount of people who come and see dance concert. Seeing dances which your classmates created, seeing the hard work they put into it is just as cool as seeing classmates performing the dances. And there is also the contrast of adult choreographers such as Ms. Edwards and Mr. Moy who have lots of experience with dance and choreography. Both faculty and students choreograph together for an awesome, inviting show with lots of variation.”
This year’s show comes with the promise of new ideas, incredible performances, and an overall great time. The Winter Dance Concert gets better with each year and is sure to be an amazing experience for everyone involved, whether that be in the show or in the audience.
