Student Activities Association Swaps It Up on Weekends

Student Activities Association, more commonly known as SAA, is in charge of planning activities for students both on and off campus. So far this year, SAA has provided the Milton community with a large assortment of fun activities, from outdoor movies on the quad to dorm hop.
As we leave the first month of school behind us and enter October, we can all look back and see how big of a role SAA activities played in our adjustment back to school. Especially important for boarders, activities offer a way to spend time with friends and relax after a long week of hard work without even leaving campus. SAA activities allow freshmen to mingle and make some of their first memories here at Milton, while allowing older students to continue enjoying activities they have come to love. This school year, SAA did not disappoint.
In the first few weeks of school, SAA welcomed us back with a movie night on the quad. Enjoyed by many, the movie night was a hit. Students voted for the movie “She’s The Man,” and the quad was filled with spirited laughter and kids reciting lines from the movie by heart. According to SAA member Elizabeth Capicotto (III) “[This year] is going to be the best year yet”.
Along with annual activities like dorm-hop, karaoke night, board game night, and ice-cream night, SAA is planning to introduce some new ideas. Instead of the previously annual Swap-It dance, SAA is planning a Halloween dance on Halloween night. Boarders who are not always able to have the full Halloween experience at school will be given the time and place to dress-up and have fun. Since glow-dance was such a success this year, credited to the song choices that were both popular and upbeat, SAA is bringing back the same DJ from Glow Dance for the Halloween dance.
For Columbus Day Weekend, the first long-weekend of the school year, SAA planned an array of activities. Last Friday night included Live Band Karaoke in the Student Center. Just like last year, Karaoke night was both amusing and impressive, as there were a few more humorous performances in the mix along with some really outstanding ones. On Saturday and Sunday SAA provided a bus to Laser Tag and to Randolph Cinema, as well as an on campus showing of “Pitch Perfect” in Straus and open recreation in the ACC. All these options gave students the choice of a cozy night-in watching movies or an action-packed outing off-campus.
Parents’ Day weekend is the conclusion to a very busy week, and SAA provides us with the perfect opportunity to unwind and get into the Halloween spirit. Today SAA is having caramel apples and pumpkin painting, followed by an on-campus appearance by the East Coast Gaming Truck on Saturday. According to Jessica Kim (III), a new member of SAA, ”It is very likely more activities will be added to the ones above, but the ones above are definite”. These upcoming activities are perfect for bringing us from the warm summer days to the cozy autumn nights.
