Boys’ and Girls’ XC Sprint Ahead
by Caroline McCammond on Friday, October 17th, 2014
Both the Boys’ and Girls’ Cross Country teams are living up to the Mustang’s phenomenal speed, as the boys have lost to only two teams, and the girls to one. With records like these, the Mustangs have set their sights on winning the 2014 ISL Championship.
The Milton Boys’ Cross Country team, coached by Scott Bosworth, kicked off the season with a strong first place win over BB&N, Governor’s, and St. Sebastian’s at Milton. The Mustangs proved their endurance, placing first again at their next race and then continuing to win against Brooks and St. George’s. They were stopped short by Nobles and St. Paul’s but despite these past two losses, undefeated Captain Connor James (I) stresses that as the season continues the runners have “become stronger, and [he feels] that the result of the [team’s] hard work will be evident at ISL’s.” The Nobles race has always been tough for the Mustangs, but the team is looking forward to showing their speed against them and other schools at the ISL Championship.
Having only lost to Nobles, the 2014 Girls’ Cross Country team—for the fourth consecutive year—is in the running for the ISL Championship. The girls placed first in 2012 and second in both the 2011 and 2013 Championship races. Head coach Scott Huntoon describes this year’s team as “a great mixture of returning runners and girls who are new…. These girls run very well together and create a nice pack.” Well on their way to ISL’s, the team is working hard and focusing on beating Nobles at the biggest tournament of the year. The team’s next race is at Milton versus Lawrence Academy.
The Milton Cross Country teams are consistently in the top tier of the ISL, and the start of the 2014 season demonstrates the teams’ endurance and resilience as they race to the ISL Championship.
