Artist of the Week: Dalton Letorney (III)
by Emma Martin on Friday, October 17th, 2014Dalton Letorney (III) has a special talent and passion for music. An incredible singer and musician of multiple instruments, Dalton is also a songwriter and producer of his own original songs and music videos.
Inspired by his older brother, Dalton finds true comfort, passion, and love in music and the variety and creativity that it allows him. He’s been singing for five years, and at Milton, Dalton actively immerses himself in the music culture, extending his impressive and amazing resume.
Dalton lends his talent to the Chamber Singers and the Gospel Choir, where he has loved every minute of the “clapping and fun.” Though he is only a sophomore, Dalton has big dreams of eventually “touring and performing on a world stage to thousands of people with backup singers and dancers.” The Milton community, though a much smaller audience, is very lucky to have a young artist as talented, well-rounded, and passionate as Dalton.
In addition, Dalton’s music career extends far beyond Milton and singing. He’s as determined to master the piano as he is his vocals. He’s been playing the instrument for nine years and considers himself classically trained, though he “prefers to play pop and rock.” Dalton can also play the harmonica and plans to extend his knowledge of the guitar beyond the “three” chords he currently knows.
His ability to play multiple instruments translates well into another one of his endeavors—composing songs. He admits his celebrity inspiration is Sam Smith because he’s “absolutely amazing” and has more depth and talent as an artist than many other artists in Hollywood. Aspiring to Hollywood himself, Dalton shares that he would someday consider chasing his dreams on a show like The Voice.
Dalton is an impressive, mature, and well-spoken student. Though he admits he sometimes drives his family crazy with his Beyoncé riffs, the Milton community has loved every note, piece, and music video that Dalton has mastered and created. If you’re Facebook friends with Dalton, you can check out some of the video links he posts of songs and videos he’s covered and made. Another way to check out some of Dalton’s work is through his YouTube channel, DaltonandDylan, which has 1,910 subscribers! His cover of Sam Smith’s ‘Say Something’ is amazing, and I encourage everyone to check out Dalton’s amazing vocals and video producing talent.
For those of us who are far from possessing any sort of vocal skills, Dalton provides some advice. He says, “Singing is no different than any other passion that one can have in life. If you find something that makes you really happy, then do it; embrace it; go after it—learn as much as you can so that you can better yourself. There will be challenging days, months, or years, but when you love something that makes you feel good about yourself, the journey will be worth it.”
