Football Gears up for New Season
by Nathaniel Deacon on Friday, September 19th, 2014
Following an 8-1 campaign that led to an ISL title and a New England Championship in 2013, Milton’s Varsity Football looks to pick up from where it left off last year. The team, captained by Bobby Gilmore (I) and Jeff Brown (I), possesses strong senior leadership combined with a flock of young talent. After several key starters graduated from last year’s squad, including all of the starting backfield, the Mustangs will look for younger players to step up into major roles. Although the team lost many outstanding players, four out of the five starting linemen return to the team in 2014 as well as a slew of other players. When asked about the upcoming season, both Brown and Gilmore said their only goal is to have a 9-0 championship season. Nick Peponakis (I) said the team “will work hard day in and day out to win.” Although the squad will face a tough week one opponent in St. Sebastian’s, Bobby Gilmore is confident they will be up for the challenge. He said, “Seb’s is always a tough opponent, but I think we have a great chance at beating them Saturday.” After St. Sebastian’s, the Mustangs will play their home opener against St. George’s on September 27th, hopefully on their way to another championship season.
