Girl’s Tennis Wraps Up Epic Season
by The Milton Measure on Friday, June 6th, 2014
It would be a severe understatement to say that the Milton Girls’ Tennis team had a “good” season. The team went undefeated with a 15 – 0 record, dominated the New England tournament, and won the ISL title for the second year in a row. One of the team’s greatest accomplishments was beating “the meanest team in the league,” Andover, for the first time in over five years. The squad was able to beat the Andover team for a second time this year in an intense match for the New England tournament championship. After an exceptional showing in the tournament, the team ended the season by sweeping an undefeated Nobles team.
Each one of the team’s five seniors, Abby Lebovitz, Ilve Bayturk, Kaitlin Gately, Riley Kinney, and Kendall Hall, will be missed greatly in the upcoming season. However, the graduating seniors leave behind four strong and passionate underclassmen, including their new captain, Maddie Dewire (III), as well as Semi Oloko (IV), Te Palandjian (IV), and Julia Lebovitz (IV), each with a promising future in the tennis program. The team is proud to have dedicated such an amazing season to last year’s captain Merritt Levitan, whose spirit was present throughout the entire season. Merritt will always be an important part of the Girls’ tennis team. Next year, the team hopes to win both the ISL and New England titles with a new goal in mind: to not lose a single set along the way.
