Bright Future for Milton Baseball
by Nathaniel Deacon on Friday, June 6th, 2014
The Milton Mustangs Boy’s Varsity Baseball Team finished an up and down season with a respectable .500 record. Captained by Drew Jacobs (I) and Michael Davis (I), the team got off to a strong start before faltering down the stretch. Despite a rocky patch in the middle of the season, the Mustangs were able to finish the season strong, beating rival Nobles 3-0. Davis pitched a complete gem of a game, allowing no runs to a strong Nobles side. Among the storylines of this season was Gibson Dintersmith’s (II) return to the mound after undergoing Tommy John surgery. After waiting all season for an opportunity to pitch, Gibson finally got his chance at Groton. In his return he allowed only one run and dominated Groton’s batters. The emergence of underclassmen Ryan Allen (III), Isaac Fossas (IV), Gavin Baker-Greene (III), and Sam Foley (III) shows that this Mustang squad is built for the future. “We’ve got a great group of guys, and I’m proud of what we’ve accomplished, but we will not be happy until we’ve won an ISL Chip,” added Allen, when asked about this years team. At the end of the season, optimism surrounded the clubhouse as the team bid farewell to the seniors, and looked to usher in a new class of leaders. For this team, sky is truly the limit.
