Volleyball’s Season Heating Up
by Jeremy Gross on Friday, October 25th, 2013
With seven wins and six losses this year overall and a 3-1 record in the ISL, the Varsity Volleyball team is three-way tied with BB&N and St. Paul’s for first place in the ISL. While much of the attention this fall has been devoted to the Football team’s undefeated streak and the Girls’ Soccer team’s ISL-leading performance, Milton students and teachers alike should also be turning their attention towards the Volleyball team’s successful season. The team’s camaraderie and teamwork have proven to be a key reason why the team is doing so well, as the team’s chemistry shines as one of its best qualities. Under the leadership of captains Debbie Lee (I) and Marina Fleites (II), the squad has dominated the ISL so far, swiftly defeating Nobles 3 games to none. Marina and Debbie have accepted their leadership roles both on and off the court very well, and both have the utmost confidence in their team. Devon Moehlenkamp (I) and Jamie Murray (II) have also been instrumental in boosting the team to victory in close games, as their composure on court and their high morale have helped support their teammates to do the same. Everyone on the team is fully engaged and has her eyes on the ISL championship trophy.
Step aside, football and soccer: the Milton Volleyball era has finally arrived, and it has arrived in fashion. Although significant changes have been made to the nature of Milton Academy Volleyball in the past three years that might have jarred the team’s focus, this crew of unlikely heroes has managed to mix the key ingredients of coordination, precision, and tenacity to become nothing less than dominant this season. Next time you are in the ACC, stop by the 3rd court and check out the Varsity Volleyball squad; the team’s next home game is this afternoon (Friday, October 25th) at 4:30 pm.
