by Abby Lebovitz on Friday, December 7th, 2012

This Wednesday, Milton’s fall varsity athletes gathered one final time to celebrate the achievements of their teams and each other at the M Club dinner hosted by the athletic department. Even though none of the teams qualified for the post-season, each team had strong and impressive seasons. Some of the highlights of the fall included girls’ cross-country winning the ISL championships, the football team’s obliterating of Nobles, the girls’ soccer team upsetting Worcester Academy, and many more.

The coaches spoke about their team’s season and presented special team awards and All-ISL honorable mention and all-league awards. First, the volleyball team had an impressive season, keeping up with many of New England’s powerhouses, such as Exeter and Concord Academy. Next year’s captains will be Debbie Lee (II) and Marina Fleites (III).

The boys’ soccer team had one of their best seasons in the past few years defeating Nobles in their final game. Michael Sheehan (I) was named an All-ISL honorable mention and Liam White (II) the 2013 team captain. The field hockey team gave out many teammate-elected awards including both captains Ali Gendron (I) and Ale Gianino (I) receiving the coaches and team MVP awards respectively. The football team had a strong performance with many members receiving honorable mention and all-league awards. Nick Bland was awarded the Stokinger award for the team MVP, and Jeff Bortman was given the Cleveland award for being an outstanding senior leader. Coach Kahn of the girls’ soccer team stressed the huge impact all the seniors had. Also, Chandler Quintin (II), along with gaining the position of all-league in the ISL, qualified as an all-state player highlighting her as one of the best in Massachusetts. Next year’s captains are Chandler and Eliza Ticknor (II). All in all, the Milton teams had very strong fall seasons and represented Milton with dignity and outstanding acheivement. The M Club dinner allowed teams to reflect on the past season and look forward to next year.
