- Milton boys warm up for tennis tryouts
After two straight 14-1 second place finishes in the ISL, the Boys’ Varsity Tennis team looks to have a strong season this year. After losing four players to graduation and personal issues, some have claimed that this year might be a rebuilding one for the storied program.
However, team Captain Matthew Lebovitz (I) does not think so. “The new players trying out have been working their butts off in tryouts, and while our team may not be the most talented in the ISL, we will certainly be one of the deepest,” Lebovitz says. The team returns four players this year, Lebovitz, Henry Arndt (I), Alex Lauretti (II), and Chris McDonough (III), all of whom have immensely improved from last season.
Look for a breakout season from Lauretti and McDonough, who did not play singles last season but will undoubtedly be integral members of the squad. Last spring, the team lost their only match to Roxbury Latin in a heartbreaker. The boys look for revenge against this team on Wednesday, May 2nd at Milton. While Milton’s notorious rival is traditionally Nobles, the tennis team, over the last few years, has had another: Belmont Hill. Milton defeated the Belmont Hill squad 9-6 in a contentious match last year. The squad looks to defeat Belmont Hill again this year on Saturday, April 21st away. Cheer on the boys this season, as they aim for an ISL title and New England championship.
