Senior Showcase Recap

by on Friday, February 10th, 2012

Last Saturday, February 4th, the Milton students and faculty gathered in Straus Library for the annual Senior Showcase. An excitement filled night for the entire community, the showcase featured a wide variety of performances ranging from pitch-perfect singing by Hannah Auerbach (I) to magic tricks from Victoria Lee (I) and Gracie Jacob (I).

Brandon Daly (I) kicked off the night with two guitar songs and was followed by a musical medley from Juwon Kim (I), Brittany Owens (I), and Eric Davis (I). Juwon (on piano) and Brittany (as a vocalist) commenced a gripping rendition of Adele’s “Someone Like You.” Kim and Owens were soon joined by up and coming rapper Eric Davis (I) whose ingenious rhymes won audience attention. James McHugh (I) then took the stage, finishing a brief set with Taylor Swift’s “You Belong With Me.” Audience members screamed the chorus in unison, straining to join McHugh on the high notes. Alice Yu (I), HJ Kim(I), and Lexi Lazares (I) followed McHugh with a cover of “You Da One” by Rihanna, a capella. The Milton Senior a capella members then sang their way to stage.

Later on, Mackenzie O’Neil (I) performed an interesting act involving balloons. With Shauna Yuan (I) on the piano, Mackenzie brought up several student volunteers such as Jared Friedberg (I), Teo Camadella (I), and Gracie Jacob (I). The next act was a magic show. Victoria Lee (I) and Gracie Jacob (I) brought audience members, including Nick Bland(II) and Abel Gonzalez (I), forward to aid the quirky tricks with a few magic words.

Next were Hannah Auerbach (I) and her band. Screams and yelps erupted from Class IV girls as Sky Williams (I) waltzed onto the stage. Guitar in hand, Sky joined Hannah, and the other musicians and began to rock. Finally, the night ended with Tom Schnoor (I) and Keyon Vafa (I) belting out to the tunes of “Not Gonna Cry” by Lily Halpern.

In between each act, the hosts of the events would pull a name out of the mix and announce the raffle winner. The first prize was the coveted basket of warm winter sheets. Other notable prizes included a Pandora bracelet, a $150 dollar Ichiro Sushi coupon, and a decorated mirror. Mrs. Wu Wong, however, won the most anticipated prize of the night: a 32 GB iPad. The announcement was accompanied by a drum roll. Hopes up, heart beating fast, the student body sat in silence as Phoebe Bodkin (I) pulled the name out of the pile.

Yet, audience members left with more than prizes. The event brought forth talents into the Milton community, ultimately creating a sense of camaraderie between classes, and pronounced the Class of 2012 a class to remember as we move in to the second semester.
