Nesto Gallery Opening
by The Milton Measure on Friday, February 10th, 2012
This month, Milton was lucky to welcome Wendy Seller to the Nesto Gallery for the opening of her collection of artwork, titled “Letting Loose: digital collages.” Seller, a unique artist, graduated from University of Illinois and the Rhode Island School of Design, and since then has presented her work at numerous solo and group exhibitions in the Boston area and all over the country. To add to her achievements, Seller was recently awarded the Professional Development Fund Award at the Rhode Island School of Design in 2011 and received the Rhode Island School of Design’s Provost Faculty Award for Professional Advancement in Teaching in 2010.
After graduating college, Seller both furthered her longstanding interest in painting and explored a variety of other media. She began working with digital programs, such as the Adobe Illustrator Program and Photoshop, to integrate computer images with her own artwork. Seller expressed, “Through Illustrator, I was able to view my paintings with fresh perspective – my labor-intensive oil paintings were reinterpreted through hundreds of color-filled amoeba-like puzzle pieces. I began combining collaged elements from my own work with historical references, and manipulated these further. Using a flatbed scanner, my options increased as I captured small three-dimensional nature objects from my studio collection and added them to the mix.” Seller’s artwork gives us a fresh and new perspective on digital imaging with a variety of colorful and unique images and ideas. “Pensive Girl” and “Childhood Reflections,” two of Seller’s digital collages, are vibrant fusions of paint and computer images. In addition to her digital collages, Seller also works with oil paints and has a variety of work showcasing her skill as a painter. Seller’s work opened for display at Milton Academy’s own Nesto Gallery at 5:00 on Tuesday night and is currently on exhibit. We encourage all students to take this opportunity to view Seller’s unique work. Hope to see all of you there!
