Girls Varsity Hockey Season
by The Milton Measure on Friday, February 10th, 2012
The Girls Varsity Hockey Team entered the final leg of their season with a disappointing record of 4 wins, 13 losses, and 1 tie. Led by top scorer Kailey Buxbaum (II), and head coach of 3 years Deanna McDevitt, the girls have not let the losses deter their enthusiasm for the game.
This past Saturday, February 4, the Mustangs defeated Thayer Academy down the road in Canton, MA. After surrendering the first goal, the Mustangs evened the score on a goal by Junior forward Delaney Flynn. Defenseman Brighid Noone (I) scored the game winner on a slap shot from just inside the blue line.
The team hopes that this win against a tough opponent will set the tone for the rest of this winter season, and that they can put an injury plagued first half behind them. Among the injured were top line forwards Erin Martin (I) and Kaitlin Gately (III).
“Losing a lot of our players to injury is tough, but we have to find a way to win without [the injured players],” added Brighid, “and we will.”
