Magus Mabus Music
by The Milton Measure on Friday, November 11th, 2011
This year, the Magus-Mabus, continuing their march towards artistic domination, is offering a brand new opportunity for Milton’s many student musicians: the opportunity to submit their music for publication.
The magazine, which is published biannually, in the winter and spring, has classically provided students with the opportunity to submit their personal collections of poems, short stories, essays, and artwork for publication. Magus has announced that in addition to their magazine, they will now release a CD of music created and performed by students.
Students are welcome to record and submit music of a wide variety of genres, including a capella, jazz, rock, and hip-hop. The submissions will then be reviewed by the Magus staff, who will select 15 tracks to be burned onto a CD. Magus hopes to distribute these CDs throughout the year.
Maxwell Bennett (I), who heads the Magus’ music staff, shared much enthusiasm for the new music submissions and revealed some of Magus’ goals for the future: “We are hoping to showcase Milton’s music … Milton has very impressive bands, singers, and even rappers.”
Magus hopes that their addition of a music division will make student performances available to students and faculty who may not be able to attend live concerts. Students across campus are already expressing their excitement for the new idea of music submissions for the Magus. Nunu Lawoyin (II) shares that she is “really excited to hear what [her] classmates can create”.
The Magus encourages all student singers and musicians to contribute to this year’s literary and arts magazine by submitting their music. Music is a large part of Milton’s art department, as well as of its student culture. The halls of Milton are full of talented musicians. It’s time that we hear their voices.
