Milton Academy Boys Cross Country

The Boys’ Cross Country team continues to prove itself despite tough odds, demonstrating that it recognizes the true meaning of the word “team.” Not only does it prioritize winning and success, but it also requires team bonding. Often, the team can be seen parading shirtless, super-soakers in hand, around the Milton campus during practice hours. While, on a certain level, one can see why this silly behavior would just be fun, when asked about this specific ritual, members of the team went on to discuss how moments like these help bring a team together.
A long time member of the team, Ben Bosworth (II) stated, “Milton Academy Cross Country is a brotherly experience… We look forward to practice, no matter how hard it may be,” further revealing that Cross Country is more than just a sport for these young men. Rather, Cross Country is an assembly of men, sharing the common goal of driving themselves and their teammates towards achieving new goals.
While the “brotherly” aspect of this team is truly remarkable, the boys also continue to compete impressively. The team had a preliminary meet at the beginning of the season on Martha’s Vineyard, during which it raced an assortment of public, private, and Catholic schools. The following meet was held at St. George’s. At this race, the Mustangs beat three out of the four schools.
The team displayed complete dominance at the Lawrence Academy meet, beating all three teams, and finishing with runners placing first, second, and fourth out of the top five. Most recently, Milton took on Middlesex, St. Paul’s, and Belmont Hill, some of the most talented teams in the ISL. Despite the competition, Milton held its own.
With many of the stronger teams out of the way, the Mustangs look towards what should be a rather easy schedule as they progress towards the championships.
The Milton Academy Cross-Country team is a force to be reckoned with in the ISL; however, it does not forget what ties it together. This team demonstrates that it understands, and is willing to practice the qualities that define a team.
The runners are there for each other, always pushing one another to better themselves and the team. As the season continues, one should expect nothing short of greatness from the this team.
