Head Monitors Molly Gilmore (I) and Tom Schnoor (I)

Greetings Milton Students and Parents, from your head monitors, Tom Schnoor  and Molly Gilmore! Throughout this year, we plan on using this column (or a column in the Milton Paper, we try not to play favorites) as a forum for communication. We want to keep you updated on what is happening in the Self Governing Association (SGA) and express our interest in learning about your views and opinions. We really do welcome any ideas you have.
We want to hear from you! Whether you are a student, faculty or staff member, or a parent or an alumnus or someone who just  cares about Milton and has good ideas, we would love to hear what’s on your mind regarding how Milton can be the best it can be.
Last spring, there was interest in holding a school-wide volleyball tournament on the quad—so we held one! This fall, we have heard that some of the newer day students wished they had older “siblings” to guide them into Milton like many of the residential houses have—so plans are now underway to give every new day student an upperclassmen “big sibling” to be matched with.
Maybe you’re beginning to think that all those backpacks clogging the top of the staircase and the upper level walkways of the Student Center are becoming a little cumbersome (who hasn’t tripped on them at least once?). You think that storage and shelving should be built in upper level of the Student Center to accommodate all the assorted bags safely. Maybe you get a really good feeling when you walk into lunch, like everyone is really friendly and welcoming, and you want to express your appreciation; or, maybe you get a feeling that’s the opposite.
We want to know what attending Milton is like for all students so that we can help sustain the great things, change the not so great things, and maybe start something new.
You should always feel free to email us directly at or Please add the SGA conference to your desktop on FirstClass to stay updated weekly by reading the minutes from every SGA meeting that are posted there.
In case you did not know, the Head Monitors’ office is in the basement of Wigg Hall, near the student mailboxes. Please feel free to stop by and say hello if you see us in there.  And, not to sound too creepy, but as an added incentive: we have free candy!  Stay in touch!
