Bringing seXC Back
by The Milton Measure on Friday, October 14th, 2011
Amidst all the team pride on game days, emerge the librarians. Led by Spirit Captain Gracie Jacob (I), team pride for the Milton Academy Girls’ Cross Country team unifies the girls on race days. From Ruby Tuesday to Funky Sock Friday, dressing up supports the team camaraderie—it has proven to work thus far, with two stellar sweeps to open up the season.”Team chemistry is off the charts,” adds Isabelle Carr (II). The girls find themselves having fun throughout practice and on race day, whether in the bus or during their team-oriented warm-up before the race.
While Jacobs leads off the course, Captain Victoria Lee (I) takes charge on the course. Lee, the top points scorer for the Mustangs, won the tri-race against Brooks and Lawrence, and placed high in their other two races. Coming close behind Lee are runners Lindsay Atkeson (II) and Danielle Frederick (I), who are the second and third highest point scorers respectively.
While only the top five runners score points for the team, the Mustangs boast a plethora of athletes running hard to make those five spots meaningful.
With a successful opening of the season, the girls hope to “continue their hot streak,” says Lee, “all the way to the ISL Championships in the latter part of the season.” Good luck to the seXC ladies.
If you’re interested in seeing the girls in action, come out to Cunningham Park in Milton on the 15th and 29th of October for their next home meets.
